Ted Trueblood Chapter Calendar
FEBRUARY 9 MEETING
The joint meeting of the Ted Trueblood Chapter of Trout
Unlimited and the Boise Valley Fly Fishermen will be at 600 N. Curtis, across
from West Junior High School. Fly tying at 6:30 p.m., meeting at 7:30 p.m.
PROGRAM
by Rick Prange
- We will have a very unique program at our February meeting. Club members Bob
Glenn, Phil Anderson and Martin Landholm are going to combine their efforts in
a slide presentation on a trip they took last September to Mongolia to fly
fish for the world's largest known trout - the tiamen. During their 5 days of
river fishing, they landed fish probably weighing in the 30 - 40 lb class.
Larger fish were hooked but not landed. No fish were allowed to be killed.
These fish fought hard, jumping and making long runs. They were taken using
mouse patterns on the surface with 9-weight outfits. The fish were
aggressive, sometimes missing the fly and returning to strike again. Samples
of their patterns will be shown. The party of 7 anglers booked the trip
through Frontier Anglers spending some time in China during the trip. Another
smaller rainbow type of trout species, the Siberian Lenok was also caught on
more tradition fly patterns. This will be a great program. As usual, a fly
tying demonstration will start before the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
March 9 meeting program - Marv Taylor will be returning to us to give a
program on his new book, Guide to Aquatic Entomology, and to preview some new
reservoir fishing waters in northern Nevada and eastern California plus East
Newton Reservoir near Cody, Wyoming.
