A. Annual Picnic is Wednesday, July 11
Every summer the Boise Valley Fly Fishermen put on a potluck picnic. Trout
Unlimited and the Boise Valley Woolly Buggers have joined in this annual
event the past few years.
This year the picnic is Wendesday July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Municipal Park. Cost is $10.00 per person, $15 per couple, and $5 for Woolly Bugger (children) members. The main entree (burgers and hot dogs) and beverages will be provided. You bring a potluck dish. Please RSVP to Bob Floyd at 327-2626 by Tuesday, July 10.
B. Squaw Creek Project Sat. July 14
Hi gang,
Just a reminder for next Saturday. I will send specific directions on
Monday. We are looking for 8-10 people. Items to bring include: sunscreen,
boots, long pants, tool belt (for nails, hammer and such), hammer, fence
pliers (we will have extras), and lots of enthusiasm. We would like to work
9-4 with a bbq afterwards. We will supply water and drinks and folks should
bring a lunch. The drive from Boise takes approx. 2 hrs. Please let me know
who will be attending so I can get an idea of how many supplies to purchase.
As a reminder as to why we are conducting the project, the area is heavily
grazed and the fencing project is designed to protect critical bull trout
habitat. We will be constructing new fence and repairing old fence in the
Rammage Meadows area of the 3rd Fork of Squaw Creek.
Thanks,
Doug

D. Vote on a new TU Logo
In January 2001, TU unveiled options for new logos for the organization as
part of an online vote open to all our members. We received excellent
feedback regarding the logos presented. In fact, we received so many good
ideas that in the Spring 2001 TROUT, we invited TU members to submit their
own ideas for a new logo. Again, we received a tremendous response with
many of our members spending hours to create an improved logo. We'd now
like your opinion again!
We invite you to visit tu.org to see, and vote on, four of the best designs we received from our members, as well as the winning logo from the previous survey.
The results of this online vote will provide direction to the Logo Committee as it makes its final recommendation to TU's Board of Trustees. The winning design will be announced at TU's Annual Meeting on August 14-19, 2001.

E. Contact Congress concenting Energy/Fish
During July, both the House and the Senate will be working on energy bills.
We need your help to make sure that fishery issues are not fried in this push
for power.
Both chambers of Congress are considering bills that would make protecting fish much more difficult when non-federal hydropower plants undergo their once every 30- to 50- year environmental review.
Rolling back fish protection is heading in the wrong direction for conservation, and does not even contribute much to energy production. But it saves the hydro owners a lot of money.
Please let your Representative and Senators know that you do not want to sacrifice fish when power companies are given the right to use public rivers.
Go to http://capwiz.com/tu/issues/alert/?alertid=17670 for more information and to send an email or letter to your Members of Congress.
Thanks,
Trout Unlimited
F. Recent Correspondence regarding Rainbow Gathering.
David Scott wrote:
Dear Rainbow People - The 2001 Gathering has received a substantial amount of bad local press in Idaho, which has had an unfortunate
effect on the public perception of Rainbow values, etc. On behalf of Idaho Trout Unlimited (ITU), I would like to offer you an opportunity
to make a positive impact on the Bear Valley watershed and, in the process, receive some positive press. ITU would like the assistance of
as many Rainbow People as possible for a work project int he Bear Valley Creek area. The project will benefit the threatened and
endangered species of fish by improving the habitat in this watershed. With your help, we can make a positive difference for these wonderful
creatures. If you are interested, please contact me, David Scott, at davidscott83702@yahoo.com. If you are interested in ITU membership or
making a donation I can also help there. The mission of ITU is to conserve, protect, and enhance the watersheds and cold water fisheries
of the state of Idaho. We have put in a substantial amount of work in the Bear Valley Creek area in terms of riparian improvements and, most
recently, a study that will help threatened westslope cutthroat trout swimming these waters. We are a grassroots organization that depends
upon volunteer labor and donations. Please consider this opportunity to make a positive contribution to the wildlife of Bear Valley and, in
the process, change the public perception of the Rainbow Family by receiving media attention. We need and welcome your help. Thanks!

I would like to put this offer in contact with some folks near the gathering - but I need a phone number to do so.
Do you have a number I could give a friend?
Karin
Wow! That was fast!! thank you, Karin. Yes, I can be reached at (208) 424-1251. The project most likely to happen with Rainbow assistance would be the removal of fencing near the stream.
Thanks, Karin, and I look forward to hearing from you.
