Woolly Buggers is a kids fly fishing club for youth ages 8-16+. Meetings (pre-pandemic) are held the second Tuesday of each month (except June, July & August) from 6-7:30pm.
The Woolly Buggers exist to give the youth of the Treasure Valley the opportunity to learn about fish, fisheries and fly fishing.
Clayne Baker started the Woolly Buggers in 1994 and grew it into the largest kids fly fishing club in the USA. Clayne and the Woolly Buggers hold to the philosophy of Roderick Haig-Brown that the more you know about the environment of our rivers, lakes and streams, the more enjoyment you receive when you go fishing.
The Woolly Buggers went dormant around 2013, but the Ted Trueblood Chapter took the lead to help the Woolly Buggers re-emerge in January 2018 with the help of fly shops and fishing clubs from around the Treasure Valley.
With the pandemic our in person meetings are limited to outdoor activities such as the annual fishing event at Kliener Park in Meridian and a work project at Simplot Park.
