Nov. 8 Program on Selective Trout

Date: Wednesday, November 8

Time: 6:00 Social Hour

          6:30 Program

Location: Smoky Mountain Pizza (415 E. Parkcenter)

Speaker: Chris Gerono from Boise River Guides

Program Topic: Selective Trout

We enjoy fly fishing because it is fun. However we have all experienced that trout on that difficult stream that is sipping something that we can hardly see and just cant get the fly pattern right or the drift is slightly off. Fooling these trout is the ultimate reward in our sport. I designed this presentation to help you catch that fish that keeps giving you the middle fin. This presentation has a little bit of everything. I will go through fly selection, rise forms, casting techniques, fly presentation and the little tricks to make you a better fly fisher. I look forward to sharing knowledge with you.

Chris Gerono: From Boise River Guides

My name is Chris Gerono and every major decision Ive made for the last 30 years has been based on fly fishing. I have been lucky enough to have been guiding now for 23 years with 14 of those years as a Fly Fishers International certified casting instructor.  During that time I have been guiding for my passions; trout and steelhead.  The majority of this guiding has been in Montana (including Yellowstone Park), Idaho and Oregon.  Other states Ive guided in include Colorado, Pennsylvania and of course Alaska.  I have been an avid fly tyer my entire fly fishing career, creating fly patterns and a specialty fly tying base with 3 vices for step tying.  Along with guiding Ive been conducting fly fishing retreats, schools and classes.  Common Lines https://youtu.be/09j1Ayq-4RU is a short that was filmed during my advanced fly fishing school trout camp” in Montana!  If you are a Hank Patterson fan, check out one of the adventures Ive been lucky enough to take part in, https://youtu.be/B2Pr6z_c-OQ. I am also a published author and photographer.

I look forward to sharing time on the water with you!

A Busy September

Our Ted Trueblood Chapter was busy last month. First, we had the 2nd annual Angler Celebration on September 14 at Kristen Armstrong Municipal Park. We had about 100 people in attendance. It was a great opportunity for anglers to reconnect and share summer fishing stories.

Saturday September 30 we held our outdoor gear sale and despite the poor weather for the outdoor event we raised more than $4,000 for our chapter youth program, including the annual youth Trout Camp and the Boise Valley Woolly Buggers youth group.

While our chapter outdoor gear sale was happening we also had a couple leaders attending the annual the national Trout Unlimited meeting, held this year in Spokane, WA.

Volunteer March 25!

Tree protection at Marianne Williams Park March 25th

Attention all nature lovers and community members! Please join us on Saturday March 25th at 1:30 pm at Marianne Williams Park for a volunteer event. We’ll be wrapping some trees and cottonwoods along the river bank to protect them from beaver damage, and possibly doing a little weeding to keep the noxious weeds at bay.

Boise River at Marianne Williams Park

This is our first afternoon event, and we’re hoping for warm and dry weather. We would love to have your help in preserving the beauty of the river and natural resources of our community. As an added bonus, every participant at Trout Unlimited volunteer projects like this one will be automatically entered to win an awesome fly rod and reel combo to be given away at the end of the season.

We will be meeting in the parking lot and walking to the site from there. If you have questions, or to RSVP, contact Trevor@elevateflyfishing.com. We look forward to working together and making a positive impact in our local river. Thank you for your support!

Hope to see you at Marianne Williams Park at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 25th!
